Federalism has been proposed as a potential solution to the Myanmar conflict. The many different ethnic groups of Myanmar have been in conflict since the country's independence in 1948. The Panglong Agreement of 1947 outlined an early form of federalism. In the 21st century, other Myanmar leaders such as Aung San Suu Kyi have also supported developing a federal system. In 2024, a committee formed of 12 political parties released a constitution and formed the People’s Representatives Committee for Federalism, proposing a federal system in Myanmar for a post-civil war era.
